What is simplicity in life? Let’s dig deeper into the philosophy behind simplicity in life, why it’s so important and what it means to Clarity. By finding balance and combining all the pieces of who you are, simplicity can be a framework for finding more things that you love and more ways to appreciate the life around you. Babauta states that by embracing the chaos through fearless habits, purpose and impact, you can achieve the simplicity your life craves. We believe so strongly in the positive impact of simplicity that we’ve embarked on a mission to own and celebrate National Simplicity Day and how we can bring clarity and purpose to four core areas of life:. From our suite of employee benefit solutions like HSA, FSA, HRA, Dependent Care Accounts, SmartRide and Wage Parity to our compliance, wellness and administrative tools, we strive to make your life easier so that when you think of Clarity, simplicity is a natural pairing.

In pre-modern times, the discrepancy between what the philosophers advised and how people lived was not so great. Some of this might reflect a kind of nostalgia for the pre-industrial or pre-consumerist world, and also sympathy for the moral argument that says that living in a simple manner makes you a better person, by building desirable traits such as frugality, resilience and independence – or a happier person, by promoting peace of mind and good health, and keeping you close to nature. But the same arguments have less purchase when the life of frugal simplicity is a choice, one way of living among many. When recession strikes, as it has done recently (revealing inherent instabilities in an economic system committed to unending growth) millions of people suddenly find themselves in circumstances where frugality once again becomes a necessity, and the value of its associated virtues is rediscovered.

Since the colonial era, advocates of simple living have been professing a way of life at odds with an American environment full of bountiful resources, entrepreneurial opportunities, and increasingly powerful institutions that combine to exalt the glories of self-indulgence and war against contentment. Puritan and Quaker settlers who arrived in America during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries brought with them a delicately balanced social ethic stressing hard work, self-control, plain living, civic virtue, and spiritual devotion. For people living in a press of anxieties, straining desperately, often miserably after more money, more things, and more status, only to wonder in troubled moments how to get off such a treadmill, the rich tradition of simplicity still offers an enticing path to a better life. the secret of my youth [at age seventy-four] is the simple life – simple food, sound sleep, the open air, daily work, kind thoughts, love of nature, and joy and contentment in the world in which I live.
