* Apprentices from all designated trades which have four-level apprenticeship programs can apply for a taxable $750 Provincial Apprentice Progression Award if they successfully complete all Level 3/Group C technical training. * Apprentices in five-level apprenticeship programs can apply for a taxable $750 Provincial Apprentice Progression Award if they successfully complete all Level 3/Group C technical training. * Apprentices in a designated non-Red Seal trade can apply for a taxable $750 Provincial Apprentice Progression Award if they successfully complete a level of apprenticeship training. * Apprentices in a Red Seal trade can apply for a taxable $750 Provincial Apprentice Progression Award if they successfully complete Level 3 of their apprenticeship program. * Apprentices in non-Red Seal apprenticeship programs that have 3, 4 or 5 levels of training are eligible to apply for a taxable $2,000 Provincial Apprentice Completion Award once they complete all training requirements and receive a Certificate of Apprenticeship.

As an apprentice student, 80% of your education would be completed through on-the-job training, learning from a certified journeyperson in the trade. There are many perks to an apprenticeship and if you’re a high school student, you can get started sooner than you think! The Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) is a program that is run through Alberta Education, allowing students to get a head start in a skilled trade while they are still in high school. As a RAP student, you can work in a trade of your choice while getting paid and earning credits. As a RAP student, you can still register with Alberta Industry and Training and get your blue book so any hours you work as a RAP student in high school are deducted from your first year of apprenticeship.

| How OYAP Works The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) offers students a chance to attend school and train as registered apprentices at the same time. The employer’s participation helps the student to develop an awareness and appreciation of the skilled trades; gain access to the trades; begin apprenticeship training as part of their high school diploma, and; make a successful transition to the workplace. | Students are selected for apprenticeship opportunities in the following manner: * OYAP works in consultation with the high school Guidance Department, Cooperative Education teacher and subject teacher in the identification of suitable candidates; * Once students are identified, they are referred to employers for interviews; * Students who successfully pass an interview are placed with the employer on a trial basis. **Registered Training Agreements** Employers have the opportunity to help a student kick start their apprenticeship by sponsoring them as an OYAP apprentice.
