# New immigration fees effective December 1. Canada’s immigration department has raised several application fees, effective December 1 2024. Here are the new fees, compared with the old fees:. | Restore your status as a visitor | $239.75 | $229.00 |. If you’ve already submitted a complete online application prior to the increase, the new fees will not affect that application. If you’ve mailed in a paper application—for example, for a post-graduation work permit (PGWP) extension—then there’s a chance you will have paid the old fee prior to IRCC having received your application. If the fee has changed since you’ve sent in a paper application, IRCC will not normally reject your application, provided that:. After receiving your application, IRCC will instruct you on how to submit payment for the difference between the new fee and the old fee. If you have to pay the difference between the old application fee and the new one, you’ll need to issue the payment and submit your receipt to IRCC.

When planning your Canadian work permit application, understanding the complete fee structure is crucial for proper budgeting and avoiding unexpected costs. Work permit application fees fall into several distinct categories: basic application fees, processing fees, biometric fees, and additional service charges. **What this means for you:** Always verify current fees on the official IRCC website before submitting your application, as outdated fee information can delay your application or result in rejection. The government requires payment in Canadian dollars, and you’ll need to account for currency conversion if paying from another country. ## **Work Permit Application Fees**. This covers the basic processing of your application and is non-refundable, regardless of the outcome of your application. **Work Permit Extension Fee:** If you’re already in Canada and extending your work permit, you’ll pay the same $155 fee. This fee is in addition to the basic $155 application fee, bringing your total to $255.
