Becoming a certified coach through Equestrian Canada’s National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) provides a clear, nationally recognized pathway to develop your coaching skills, strengthen your professional practice, and support safe, positive equestrian experiences for riders and horses. Through training, evaluation, and ongoing development opportunities, AEF is here to support you at each stage of the certification process. * Choose your coaching context (Instructor, Competition Coach, Competition Coach Specialist, Competition Development). We’ve created a step-by-step guide to walk you through each part of the process — including where to find manuals, training modules, and evaluation information. The right coaching pathway depends on your coaching goals, the riders you work with, and the environment you coach in. * Your coaching context (Instructor, Competition Coach, Competition Coach Specialist, or Competition Development). Both Coach Status and Coaching Certification are required to coach in Equestrian Canada programs such as Rookie Riders\* and Learn to Ride & Drive\*.

The National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) provides standardized, inclusive coach education across Canada. Launched in 1974, the NCCP is developed by the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) in partnership with the Government of Canada, provincial/territorial governments, and national/provincial/territorial sport organizations. For more information on the coaching streams/contexts, please go to https://coach.ca/nccp-streams-and-contexts. NCCP modules are categorized as Multi-Sport Modules and Sport Specific Modules. A coach’s NCCP training usually combines both Multi-Sport and Sport Specific modules, based upon the pathway set by the national sport organization. For more information on the Multi-Sport modules delivered in Alberta and to register for a specific course, check out the NCCP Multi-Sport Module Calendar. Coaches can use their NCCP# and password to log into the CAC Locker to check their status on their coaching transcript. Students will also learn the elements of Athlete Learning and Development and Sport Science that covers a variety of topics and issues related to both the art and science of coaching. This course provides students with a survey of selected topics in exercise physiology with an emphasis on the application to sport and the planning practices employed by coaches. As well, possible topics may include the discussion of a variety of contemporary physiological issues related to coaching such as: sex-based differences in fitness norms for sport performance, ergogenic aids, and the place of experiential knowledge in enhancing sport performance. This course will provide students with a detailed mechanical exploration of form and function in the human system with respect to performance in sport. ## FAQs. Upon successful completion of the Certificate, students will have developed a number of highly relevant competencies – knowledges, skills, and qualities – to enable them to work successfully as a coach across a variety of sport contexts.

LC Extension, the college’s learning solution and continuing education provider, will be offering the Leader as Coach program in September and again in January. “Coaching can be transformational to an individual, a team or an organization,” says LC Extension Director Jason Donkersgoed, who has ACC designation. “Our accreditation through ICF brings this important training to southern Alberta and beyond, and we’re thrilled to be part of unlocking the power of coaching for others.”. Leader as Coach will be delivered in a virtual format to make the training accessible to people wherever they live, and is offered at set times so students can grow their skills and build connections. While some coaching programs only provide theoretical content, Leader as Coach includes mentor coaching hours — opportunities for students to coach someone under the watchful eye and with feedback from an experienced, ICF-certified coach — and a performance evaluation needed to achieve ACC designation.
