## Apprenticeship training involves hands-on learning in the workplace as well as some in-college training. Apprenticeships are practical learning paths that lead to a Certificate of Apprenticeship qualification in a trades-based occupation. Apprenticeships generally take anywhere from one to five years to complete, depending on the occupation. An apprentice can have more than one employer over the course of their training, and it is possible to start logging hours towards an apprenticeship while still in high school. Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program lets you start your training while still in High School, you can gain essential skills and earn hours to put towards your apprenticeship. In addition to government grants and loans, you can also apply for Employment Insurance while completing your in-school training. Pre-apprenticeships are free training programs for individuals who need to build skills and experience prior to starting an apprenticeship. Many skilled trades occupations pay above average wages.
