### UK SDG data site and Open SDG
We report SDG data for the UK on our SDG website, which uses the free Open SDG tool. We are making our data available in more formats, like Statistical Data and Metadata eXchange (SDMX). This makes it easier to share data across systems used by the UN and UK government. [...] In 2020, the National Statistician commissioned an Inclusive Data Taskforce. It produced a set of recommendations on how best to make a step-change in the inclusivity of UK data and evidence. Some crucial initial activities were laid out in the National Statistician's response in September 2021. The SDG data team at ONS has designed and published a standardised assessment protocol to help assess the quality of non-official sources. This tool informs decisions on the SDG suitability of the non-official source. It seeks to strike a balance between harnessing benefits while managing the risks and ensuring sufficient trustworthiness, quality, and value. Doing so while considering the UN’s requirements for the indicator. This protocol builds on great work done previously by Statistics [...] Launched in 2015, the SDGs are part of the UN 2030 Agenda, with progress measured using 247 indicators. Beyond these headline indicators, the Goals encourage reporting of a range of breakdowns, by “income, sex, age, race, ethnicity, migratory status, disability and geographic location, or other characteristics” as appropriate (UN General Assembly, 2017). Some indicators also have specific disaggregations, such as education level or type of funding. In fact, there are over 100 required [...] Next is the Quality Matrix scoring stage. This has six criteria: relevance, methods, coverage, timeliness and ongoing availability, data journey awareness, and quality assurance. Each of these is scored between 0 (not acceptable) to 3 (the highest score). A source with an average score above 1.5 and no 0 scores – cross-checked by a second assessor – is deemed suitable for use in SDG reporting. Sources will also be reassessed when they are updated, which is usually done once a year.

Data and analytics are increasingly recognized as fundamental elements in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These 17 goals, adopted by the United Nations in 2015, aim to address global challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice. Each goal is interconnected, requiring a holistic approach to achieve sustainable development by 2030. Within this framework, SDG 17, "Partnerships for the Goals," is particularly crucial as it [...] The importance of data and analytics in realizing the SDGs cannot be overstated. Accurate and insightful data is necessary for several key aspects: assessing current progress, identifying existing gaps, informing policy-making, and guiding the allocation of resources. For instance, in addressing SDG 1, "No Poverty," data helps in understanding the demographics of poverty, allowing for targeted interventions. Similarly, for SDG 3, "Good Health and Well-being," data analytics play a crucial role [...] In the education sector, under SDG 4, "Quality Education," data can inform about areas where educational resources are lacking or where dropout rates are high, guiding efforts to enhance education systems. Additionally, for SDG 13, "Climate Action," data is indispensable for understanding climate patterns, predicting future scenarios, and formulating strategies to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

The SDGs can be properly implemented and tracked if decision-makers have access to the necessary data and analytical tools. Data analytics tools and analysis methods can uncover useful patterns in a rich data source. These patterns can assist decision-makers in appropriate decision-making for achieving sustainable growth. Because poor-quality, outdated, and incomplete data will lead to inaccurate SDG findings, insufficient data are a significant obstacle in monitoring the progress of SDGs, [...] advanced analytics. To gain insights, citizen data scientists should develop and enhance predictive models, as well as deploy more models to supplement existing ones. A critical task for the government agencies involved in SDGs is the investment and development of tools for analyzing large amounts of data and building predictive and decision-making models with the assistance of easy-to-use analytics systems for non-experts.
