In 2025, a comprehensive review of the global indicator framework – endorsed by the Statistical Commission – introduced key updates to better reflect today’s challenges, including climate change, inequalities and digital transformation. These changes have improved the ability of countries to track progress and to develop evidence-based policies. [...] Key instruments are driving this progress, including the Agreement on Port State Measures (PSMA), the first binding global treaty to specifically target IUU fishing. Now with 83 Parties, this Agreement covers 109 States. Other tools include voluntary guidelines on transshipment and the PSMA Global Information Exchange System, which enables vessel compliance data-sharing. Additionally, as of June 2025, the Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies of the World Trade Organization has been ratified by 102

there is also a new additions to it which is called the SDG analytics part where you could do a lot of uh comparison, data availability, look up uh trends for a specific indicator or subindicator. These are things you can explore in the SDG database. I invite you to go through the link here to to to uh further dig deep into the database. There is more resource uh available there. Uh the third component we have is something that uh uh we started this year is to uh compile success stories. Uh now [...] off track to meet all the goals uh by 2030 and on the uh SDG target with trend data uh can be accessed um only 35% on track of sure moderate progress uh nearly half of the target of moving too slowly um making only marginal progress uh while 18% have regressed. So this pins a very clear picture that we need urgent and coordinate action to get the SG uh on course. Um so uh let me show some like a positive progress. Um so we have witnessed a great achievement that demonstrates uh what is possible [...] We had about like 300,000 uh data records when we started back in 2016. Now it is uh more than 3.3 million uh data data points for the indicators. uh uh accompanying the data is a a crucial element is a metadata repository which also has now a machine readable format. So we have the metadata in the repository plus you can also access it through APIs. So this is something that got introduced a couple of years ago uh for for uh those users who wanted to kind of uh uh consume the metadata through

Conversely, many countries have made notable progress in expanding access to basic services and infrastructure, including: mobile broadband use (SDG 9), access to electricity (SDG 7), internet use (SDG 9), under-5 mortality rate (SDG 3), and neonatal mortality (SDG 3). However, future progress on many of these indicators, including health-related outcomes, is threatened by global tensions and the decline in international
