Ecological approaches, including vegetation planting (Feng et al., 2025; Li et al., 2016b; Löbmann et al., 2020; Zhu et al., 2017), geotextile application (Li et al. 2020a, 2025; Palmeira and Tatto, 2015), and soil bioengineering (Bordoloi and Ng, 2020; Romano et al., 2016; Stokes et al., 2010), enhance slope stability through root reinforcement and surface protection, while promoting biodiversity and microclimate regulation. For example, geotextile-armor layer composites can mitigate erosion [...] Two innovative geotextile-based slope stabilization and erosion control approaches were developed in this study, including vegetation-geotextile composites and geotextiles treated with alkali-activated binder (AAB). Experimental investigations were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of different slope protection measures in delaying runoff onset, lowering erosion rates, and improving slope stability under varied rainfall intensities and slope gradients. Protection extends the service life of the stabilization system. Geotextile can buffer the impact of external loads, block the puncture damage of sharp particles to the soil, resist rain erosion and chemical corrosion, and protect the integrity of the soil structure. In scenarios such as riprap slope protection and retaining wall backfilling, it can effectively reduce soil erosion and extend the service life of the project by 10–15 years. APPLICATION OF GEOMESH IN SLOPE STRENGTHENING
Geomesh fabrics are the most efficient solution to prevent slope erosion and other issues that may arise. All biaxial strengthening geomesh membranes for use in slopes feature a rectangular mesh opening. These are manufactured with high elastic modulus and low creep polyester that provide the geomesh with highly resistant features. In addition, the geomesh is protected from mechanical damage by a polymer coating. [...] Due to their inclination, slopes must be strengthened and stabilised in order to prevent debris from falling, or even their collapse.
For that purpose, we can use geosynthetic fabrics that shall not only strengthen the slope but also contribute to develop a vegetation cover. However, not all types of geosynthetic fabrics can be applied in slope strengthening projects. For that reason, this article has been created to review the advantages of using geomesh for these purposes.
