Geosynthetic materials are used for two types of reinforcements, i.e., basal and soil reinforcements. Basically, reinforcement is provided to increase the bearing capacity and reduce settlement of structures constructed over soft soils. They enable safety and have proven to be cost-effective in earthwork activities. Geogrids are prominently used as reinforcing materials in conjunction with geosynthetics to mitigate the migration of materials through the geogrids. Stability of slopes, during or after rainy season, is ensured especially by presence of geosynthetic drainage, filter, and reinforcement. Geosynthetics are classified based on the applications as discussed in Table 7.1.
