While most people are chasing after success, glamour, and fame, minimalism calls out to us with a smaller, quieter, calmer voice. It invites us to slow down, consume less, but enjoy more. And when we meet someone living a simplified life, we often recognize that we have been chasing after the wrong things all along.
## IT IS NOT EXTERNAL, BUT INTERNAL. [...] But they are wrong. Embracing minimalism brings freedom from the all-consuming passion to possess. It steps off the treadmill of consumerism and dares to seek happiness elsewhere. It values relationships, experiences, and soul-care. It lets us see all that we already have and reminds us to be grateful.
In doing so, we find a more abundant life.
## IT IS FREEDOM FROM MODERN MANIA. [...] Becoming a minimalist slows down life and frees us from this modern hysteria to live faster. It offers freedom to disengage. It seeks to keep only the essentials. It aims to remove the frivolous and keep the significant. It values the intentional endeavors that add value to life.
## IT IS FREEDOM FROM DUPLICITY.

## Why Minimalism?
Not only will minimalism save you time, money, and resources, it's also an important ingredient for success. If you want to be more productive, more focused, more creative, and exercise better willpower, it's essential that you absorb the principles of minimalism. [...] But the success of these minimalist tactics show us that maybe what we really need is less. Maybe what we really need are fewer distractions and more focus. Maybe what we really need are a few carefully chosen constraints that narrow our energy onto what really matters.
For this reason, minimalism is key to success.
### Why You Should Create More and Consume Less
Minimalism is also key to happiness to longevity. [...] People often say that they want options. When it comes to getting things done, however, options aren’t always a good thing. When everything is a possibility, it actually becomes harder to make the right choice (or any choice at all). This is the paradox of choice.
Meanwhile, when we place a constraint on ourselves, it can become much easier to get something done.
### How Minimalism Will Help You Do More
The simplest way to get better is to eliminate your distractions.

## Notes and references
[edit] [...] Minimalism is an art movement that emphasizes reducing art to its essentials, focusing on the object itself and the viewer's experience, with as little mediation from the artist as possible. It emerged in the post-World War II era in Western art, and is often interpreted as a reaction to abstract expressionism and modernism. been in therapy for childhood trauma, so I think my plants were a way for me to deal with abandonment issues (plus health issues which are still ongoing). It was a great coping mechanism, but now I’m overwhelmed with plant care and all the space they take up. I started selling off my collection. I’ve made around $600 so far, which is great but it’s nothing compared to the thousand of dollars I’ve spent on this hobby. That has been a huge eye-opener that I didn’t think about before. It’s made me [...] Comments along the lines of _"This isn't minimalism, I hate you, you suck!"_ will be removed. Healthy discussion is great, trashing other people "because their opinions differ" isn't. We also won't tolerate gatekeeping - 'I am more minimal than you because of XYZ' doesn't make for good discussion!

Minimalism or minimalist art can be seen as extending the abstract idea that art should have its own reality and not be an imitation of some other thing. We usually think of art as representing an aspect of the real world (a landscape, a person, or even a tin of soup!); or reflecting an experience such as an emotion or feeling. With minimalism, no attempt is made to represent an outside reality, the artist wants the viewer to respond only to what is in front of them. The medium, (or material) [...] Skip navigation
