Open Sustainable Technology

https://opensustain.tech

**A directory and analysis of the open source ecosystem in the areas of climate change, sustainable energy, biodiversity and natural resources.**. Open Sustainable Technology's mission is to find, list, and share projects that preserve or analyze natural ecosystems through open technology, methods, data, intelligence, knowledge or tools.*. Read our guidelines on: How to Identify Open Source Projects in Sustainability and Climate.**. > This category of tools targets the entire system design of renewable energy systems – from obtaining data, site selection, and material simulation to yield forecasting and quality control. ### Photovoltaics and Solar Energy¶. > **How?** These tools help simulate, model, and forecast photovoltaic energy output, including optical and ray-tracing simulations; analyze and visualize system data; support quality control; and interface with solar hardware like panels, inverters, and batteries. * rdtools - An open source library to support reproducible technical analysis of time series data from photovoltaic energy systems. * solar-data-tools - Data analysis tools for working with historical PV solar time-series data sets.

Top 10 Energy Simulation Tools For Renewable Projects | OPAL-RT

https://www.opal-rt.com/blog/top-10-energy-simulation-tools-for-renewable-pro…

You can pick the right simulation tool faster when you tie it to the study you must finish. Renewable capacity additions reached 473 GW in 2023, so interconnection studies, storage sizing, and controls validation now happen on tighter schedules and with less tolerance for rework. The tool you choose will shape what you can trust, what you can automate, and how quickly your team can defend results. Some renewable energy simulation software is built for energy yield and finance, some for distribution power flow, and some for switching transients and controls. Treat the selection as a chain of tasks, not a single purchase, and you’ll avoid mismatched fidelity and wasted model rebuilds. Define the decision the model must support, the time scale that matters, and the data you actually have. *“The tool you choose will shape what you can trust, what you can automate, and how quickly your team can defend results.”*. Pick energy simulation tools that match grid study requirements and the proof you must show to reviewers.

EnergyPlus

https://energyplus.net

# EnergyPlus. EnergyPlus™ is a whole building energy simulation program that engineers, architects, and researchers use to model both energy consumption—for heating, cooling, ventilation, lighting and plug and process loads—and water use in buildings. * **Integrated, simultaneous solution** of thermal zone conditions and HVAC system response that does not assume that the HVAC system can meet zone loads and can simulate un-conditioned and under-conditioned spaces. * **Heat balance-based solution** of radiant and convective effects that produce surface temperatures thermal comfort and condensation calculations. * **Sub-hourly, user-definable time steps** for interaction between thermal zones and the environment; with automatically varied time steps for interactions between thermal zones and HVAC systems. EnergyPlus is a console-based program that reads input and writes output to text files. DOE does most of its work with EnergyPlus using the OpenStudio software development kit and suite of applications. Along with OpenStudio, EnergyPlus is part of BTO’s building energy modeling program portfolio.
