The International Student Summer Employment Program (ISSEP) offers employers a wage subsidy which they can use to provide full-time undergraduate international students with meaningful employment and experience over the summer. This program can help international students develop their career skills, learn how to navigate the Canadian job market, and gain valuable knowledge and competencies which can be applied both in and out of the classroom, better preparing them to transition into the workforce after graduation. ISSEP jobs are available for the summer only and are posted on the ISSEP job board on campusBRIDGE beginning late March. To access the ISSEP job postings on campusBRIDGE you must meet all of the following eligibility criteria:. The U of A Career Centre also regularly shares new job opportunities for all students on the Student & Alumni job board in campusBRIDGE from a wide variety of employers. Every winter, the International Student Summer Employment Program (ISSEP) accepts applications from employers looking to hire a student for the summer (May to August) and provide subsidized wage funding under the ISSEP.

**On this page:** Am I eligible to participate in a student work placement? As of April 1, 2026, students no longer require a co-op work permit in order to complete a student work placement required by their program. * Immigration Canada (IRCC) has removed the requirement to hold a valid co-op work permit to participate in work that is a mandatory part of your program – now called a student work placement. * IRCC will therefore **no longer be issuing co-op work permits** to students whose program includes a student work placement. Immigration Canada may send you a letter which explains that you don’t need a co-op work permit to participate in a student work permit any longer, but even if they do not, you no longer need to have a co-op work permit. * You can wait for IRCC to withdraw your application and send you a letter which explains that you don’t need a co-op work permit to participate in a student work placement any longer.
