# Skilled Trades Programs. If you're interested in the skilled trades, a college program is a great place to start working toward your career. Many college trades programs also build apprenticeship training or co-ops right into their diploma programs, so you can complete the in-school requirements of an apprenticeship as part of your program. In taking one of these programs, you may be able to skip the in-class training portion of a future apprenticeship, saving you time and keeping you on the job site (and earning!) as you pursue your apprenticeship. An apprenticeship can give you a leg up in your pursuit of a rewarding skilled trades career. You can develop the skills you need for an apprenticeship by participating in a pre-apprenticeship training program. These resources can help you find college programs that interest you, learn about the most lucrative skilled trades out there right now, and improve the skills you might need in your preferred trade.

If you’re interested in working in a trade but don’t have the skills or experience to get a job as an apprentice, you can apply for pre-apprenticeship training. You can get pre-apprenticeship training through different organizations across Ontario, such as colleges or community agencies. * safety training for skilled trades. * basic level apprenticeship in-school training. Pre-apprenticeship training also includes a work placement for **8 to 12 weeks**. There is no cost for pre-apprenticeship training. Students in grades 7–12 will get hands-on with interactive exhibits and learn about 140+ Skilled Trades, plus hear directly from tradespeople and employers about rewarding, life-changing career opportunities. A huge thank you to Reliance Home Comfort, Skills Ontario, Thames Valley DSB, and OYAP for making today’s Women in Skilled Trades & Tech Day such an inspiring experience! Sixteen of our students had the opportunity to explore a variety of skilled trades through hands-on learning, mentorship, and real-world demonstrations. Today, our Grade 10 Career Studies students had the incredible opportunity to visit the College of Carpenters and Allied Trades, gaining real-world insight into pathways within the skilled trades.
