Wind Turbine Performance Monitoring Demonstration Key Research Question A standardized method for one-time measurement of wind turbine performance (the “power curve”) is described in IEC 61400-12-1. This method is the only one widely accepted for measuring absolute wind turbine performance in the field, but it is typically only used on a few “perfect” turbines in the first year of operation. Objective The goal of this project is to improve wind turbine production and reduce Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE) by tracking performance using turbine operational and maintenance (O&M) data, filters, and the techniques proposed in EPRI Report 3002011955. EPRI intends to conduct a performance assessment on individual turbines in the same farm with the goal of increasing wind farm power production. This work includes: • Assess individual wind turbine relative performance • Measure precision and repeatability of performance tracking techniques to use as thresholds for action • Classify wind turbines based on their performance trends.

# Wind Turbine Monitoring. Wind farms need to be aware of every wind turbine throughout the operation in order to maintain profitability, efficiency, and prevent shutdowns. There are a range of technologies that enable wind turbine monitoring, including digital twins, IoT sensors, and various analytics tools. These evolving technologies allow for a granular understanding of the health of each turbine to prevent costly wind turbine issues. Wind turbine monitoring is the process of staying aware of the status and health of every wind turbine in a wind farm. Turbine monitoring leverages a range of technologies to meet the end goal, and new developments provide more effective methods for monitoring individual aspects of every turbine. Now, advanced technologies have made it possible to monitor critical aspects of each turbine to allow for a more cost-effective operation. One of the more recent additions to wind farm monitoring is the use of digital twin software powered by autonomous drone data capture that allows for more frequent inspections of the entire turbine.

1 Wind Turbine Condition Monitoring Data Processing and Power Quality Requirements Othmane El Mountassir January 2017 TLI-SP-00008 Summary Condition monitoring systems can improve the operation and efficiency of wind turbines – especially offshore, where access can represent a great challenge. Due to the variable nature of wind and varying operational conditions of the wind turbines, more efficient condition monitoring systems are required to provide an accurate assessment of the health of the wind turbines and the quality of the power produced. • Due to the variable operation of the wind turbine, signal processing methods operating in the time-frequency domain are preferred because of their ability to process non-linear and non-stationary signals. • The offshore wind industry acknowledges that there is a need for the implementation of more comprehensive remote condition monitoring systems to reduce the requirement for offshore access, increase reliability, and also reduce operational costs. • To improve the capabilities of wind turbine condition monitoring systems, the signal processing methods selected for implementation should be capable of adapting to existing integrated monitoring systems.

# Wind Turbine Condition Monitoring. Reduce costs and downtime and maximize energy production with predictive maintenance. Specifically designed for wind turbines, our condition monitoring software uses real-time data to quickly pinpoint the root cause of an issue before it escalates - enabling faster, more informed decisions. Each solution is tailored to meet unique individual turbine needs and is adaptable for implementation across a fleet of wind assets. ## Key Benefits of Ovation Green Wind Turbine Condition Monitoring. A combined solution of wind turbine and condition monitoring control embedded in an Emerson controller. ### What is condition monitoring in wind energy? A Condition Monitoring System (CMS) is most often associated with monitoring of the unit’s rotating components like the rotor, generator, and gearbox vibrations as well as detecting metal particles in the lubricating oil system. Forecasting upcoming wind turbine maintenance can be challenging as some wind turbines lack condition monitoring or the OEMs restrict access to detailed data needed for maintenance planning.
