Without early, meaningful work experience, young people face widening gaps in confidence, skills, and employability that become harder to close with age. Conversely, failure to attach to work early increases the likelihood of long-term underemployment and low wages Building a Modern Youth Employment Ecosystem To reverse these trends, Canada must strengthen a coordinated national framework that provides meaningful work experience, skills development, and readiness supports for youth aged 15 to 29. A revitalized YESS will help youth gain needed work experience during challenging labour market conditions to support their long-term career success and to thrive in a rapidly transforming economy. By expanding Canada Summer Jobs, revitalizing YESS, and strengthening Skills for Success, the Government of Canada can: • Restore access to work experience and skill-building for all youth.
